You are probably very much aware of the term “deafness”. But you may not know that there are some people who are not able to hear only certain frequencies of sound waves. They have what is called central hearing loss.
Central hearing loss is a complex condition that may be difficult to identify without expert help. In most cases it occurs when the brain cannot adequately process sound waves coming from the outer ear, and the condition can come from some of these reasons:
Aging
As we get older, the brain loses its ability to process and detect sound, therefore making us lose our hearing. The age group that is most vulnerable to this condition is the elderly.
Ear infection
Ear infections are extremely common. As the ear constantly produces fluid, it is very vulnerable to infection. If the ear is infected, the sound waves will not be processed properly by the brain.
Earwax buildup
According to a study, almost 75% of the population has some form of earwax buildup. As the earwax gets thick, it forms a hard block which blocks the entry of the sound waves.
Noise exposure
High levels of noise exposure can lead to a central hearing loss. High levels of noise exposure may include working in noisy places such as factories or loud music.
Hearing loss is one of the most common problems faced by adults. If you think you are suffering from central hearing loss, consult your hearing specialist immediately to get an accurate diagnosis.
